Does MIGU Adaptogen offer Horny Goat Weed Extract Icariin more than60% like 98%?At MIGU Adaptogen, we love all things icariin and so we are continually researching new Horny Goat Weed products on a monthly basis. We offer icariin percentages from 10% to 98% since we first opened back in 2002.
Naturally one would make the assumption that ‘the higher the percentage of icariin within a finished Horny Goat Weed extract, the more beneficially effective the extract will be’, unfortunately however this is not strictly the case with herbal plant extracts.
We have carried out our own trials with icariin extracts in the following percentages; 50%, 60%, 70% 80%, 90%, 98% pure icariin, each time the results of the trials have shown that the 50% to 70% range was always the most effective, with the 60% icariin level being the most consistently beneficial.

Plants consist of a complex structure of constituent parts and when undergoing the processes of extraction, the balance of these constituent parts fluctuates due to the extraction being carried out. Icariin is an active flavonol derived from the Epimedium plant family, and as with any active plant flavonols, in order for them to remain both correctly conserved and fully active in their optimal state, they must stay embodied within the correct balance of their constituent parts in which they were originally formed with at the initial stages of plant growth.

This structural imbalance illustrated above is the main reason why producers can’t ‘standardize’ Horny Goat Weed extracts within the 70% to 98% icariin percentage range.
If in the future we find that the icariin structure can be stabilized by producers of Horny Goat Weed extract to purities beyond the 60% icariin level and they can fully certificate the standardization accordingly then we will happily trial this extract further ourselves and possibly consider retailing it based on consistently good results.
However, for the foreseeable future, due the lack of stability in terms of effectiveness, we will avoid the 70% to 98% icariin range and continue to go with the current optimal icariin purity for the most beneficial effectiveness, that being 60% icariin.
